5) Ronaldo is his idol
Like many football fans around the world, Kylian Mbappe is also a vehement fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. The attacker passionately follows Ronaldo and his style. He shares the Portuguese’s supreme dedication. Mbappe, a day after winning the Ligue 1 title, got back to recovery. He has set the bar so high for himself, asserting that one needs to always keep the bar high in order to progress.Fair to say, his dedication has not gone off the boil much like Cristiano Ronaldo’s ethos, who at 32 is still arguably the best player in the world.
4) Living up to his promise
While Mbappe may have announced himself on the biggest stage just last season, the potential was evident even when he was a 14-year old boy. After winning the Gambardella, Mbappe’s mother, Fyza, who is a former handball player, told her son to stay grounded as he had only been playing with the kids. Mbappe promised his mother that he would continue working hard. His hard work paid dividends as he ended last season with 26 goals in 44 competitive games.
3) Wenger is a long-term admirer
Barcelona and Real Madrid were keen on the attacker, who quite honestly, does seem like the closest player to eclipsing Ronaldo and Messi in the future. With the Spanish giants registering their interest, there was a surprising name in his suitors, Arsenal. The Gunners, who have been reluctant spenders in recent seasons, were linked with a world record move for Mbappe. While the interest was seen as a statement of intent from the Gunners’ boss by many, it was no such case. Wenger had been a long-term admirer of the French prodigy. He reportedly went to Mbappe’s house in 2016, when Mbappe was not a prominent name in the transfer market. Mbappe even had a trial at Chelsea when he was 14, while Real also had a concrete interest in the teenager.
2) Sports run in the family
Mbappe’s father, Wilfried, was a coach for US Bondy, where incidentally Mbappe’s mother, Fyza, was a handball player. Moreover, his brother too played at the same club. Wilfried was Mbappe’s mentor and even his agent. Mbappe’s close ties with his family meant that they were very much vital in deciding their son’s next destination. For a while, it did look like Mbappe would stay put at Monaco, only if it meant for one year. However, when Paris came calling, Mbappe could not resist the temptation of playing alongside the likes of Neymar, Cavani and a host of top attacking talents.
1)Next Thierry Henry
Mbappe’s playing style bears great resemblance with his country’s legendary striker, Thierry Henry. Much like Henry, Mbappe began his career at the principality club before moving to a bigger club. In addition to it, Mbappe’s pace and ability to get in behind too is a lot similar to Henry’s playing style. Henry, unlike Mbappe, though was a winger during the early stages of his career before being played as the striker by none other than Arsene Wenger. With the duo having similar traits, there were rumours that Mbappe could be tempted by Henry’s career path and indeed raise eyebrows by joining Arsenal to play under Wenger’s guidance, who without a doubt was a huge influence in Henry’s celebrated career.
