As Arsenal prepared for their pre-season tour of Australia Tuesday morning, the Gunners most expensive signing Alexandre Lacazette joined the team for the first time.
Arsene Wenger signed France international Lacazette last week from Lyon in a club record £52.6m deal and today he hit the pitch with the likes of Sead Kolasinac, Mesut Ozil and Laurent Koscielny, at the Kogarah Oval in Sydney, ahead of Thursday’s friendly against A-League side, Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium.
The 26-year-old striker will play some part in the Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers friendlies wearing the club’s No. 9 shirt, which was last worn by Lucas Perez last season following his £17m signing from Deportivo La Coruna.
Wenger said of Lacazette’s upcoming debut: “On Thursday night he will certainly play a part in the game and in the other game as well. In the two games he will take part.
“We play football based on movement, technical qualities and mobility, and I believe that both of the new signings [Lacazette and Kolasinac] can integrate well into the team.
“One is a defender who can play on the flank and centrally, and one is a striker with a very good goalscoring record, so I believe that they are great additions to the team.
“It’s a good opportunity as well to have a first look at how well and how quickly they will integrate with the way we want to play.”
Following the Australian leg, Arsenal will fly to China where they will face Bayern Munich in Shanghai on July 19 and then Chelsea in Beijing’s Bird’s Nest on July 22.
From there they will return to England to host Benfica and Sevilla in the Emirates Cup at their home ground in North London. After which they will play Chelsea again in the Community Shield in August.
