Arsenal legend Ian Wright thinks that both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial should leave Manchester United, after both have become increasingly frustrated with their roles of late.
Martial is currently considering his future due a number of issues including a lack of game time, having started just four games since Alexis Sanchez’s signing in his position back in January.
Whilst England international Rashford has been a bit-part player this term, having started just 14 Premier League games, making a further 15 appearances as a substitute, with Romelu Lukaku being favoured in a central attacking role.
Wright, who played nearly 300 games for the Gunners, thinks it might be beneficial for Rashford to leave if he wants to improve as a player.
“He’s ambitious and he wants to play as well,” he told Sky Sports’ The Debate.
“The mere fact he might be thinking about leaving United to get more game time is a good thing.
“If he has another season where he has to be on the sidelines like he is now and be used as sparingly as he is, what about his progression as a player?
“He could play for anyone at the moment especially in the top four.”
And the former Arsenal and England striker had this to say about Martial: “He has almost fallen off a cliff with Mourinho and if he had to let one of them [Martial or Rashford] go, it would probably be Martial.”
Asked whether Martial and Rashford should both be thinking about leaving, Wright added: “They should be thinking about it with everything that is happening, and the way United play.
“They should be a lot closer to Manchester City with the quality they have got but they have not been able to really express themselves in the way they want to.”
