Manchester United players who will be free agents next year

  1. Anthony Martial:

The 22-year old Frenchman and Jose Mourinho don’t seem to have the best of relationship this season but lately, especially after the Chelsea match, things look better between the two. Martial is a player with immense talent, who could go on to become one of the stars in the future and United to act quick on getting him sign a new contract before it gets late.

  1. Juan Mata:

The Spaniard has been an absolute gentleman throughout his entire football career till date and there are very few who are as respected as the former Chelsea man. Mata has struggled to get regular game time this season and given his contract runs out at the end of the season, Jose would soon like to seal his status with the Red Devils.

  1. Ander Herrera:

Another Spaniard who has been struggling to get regular starts for United is Jose Mourinho. Herrera is one passionate United player who has never been hesitant to offer whatever he can for the benefit of the team. It is unfortunate that he has not been able to play more often but given his relation with Jose Mourinho we might soon see sign a new contract and not become a free agent.

  1. Andreas Pereira:

At the beginning of the season, it looked that we might see Pereira more than often in the playing XI but things haven’t quite gone his way. After an early stint, Pereira hasn’t been able to convince Jose to get a regular start. He is a great  young talent and United should soon tie up him to a new contract before it expires at the end of the season.

  1. Ashley Young:

Young started out as a winger under Sir Alex Ferguson but has seen his position change from season to season under different managers. He is mostly used as a full back these days and given that United may soon plan an overhaul under Jose, it is interesting to see where Young’s future lies as his contract nears an end this season.

  1. Antonio Valencia:

As is the case with Ashley Young, the same goes for Antonio Valencia. With age, the Ecuadorian has settled to a defensive position wide on the pitch. With Diogo Dalot signed, Valencia’s time at United is under doubt with the Red Devils especially with his contract expiring soon at the end of the season.

  1. Phil Jones:

The Englishman has been more than often marred with injuries and it has been a similar case this season. United desperately need stability at the back and Jones could have offered a good option but with the injuries and poor form, Jones has found himself on the bench regularly and it will be interesting to see how United to handle his contract situation given that it runs out this season.

  1. Chris Smalling:

If there has been some consistency in the heart of United’s defence this season, it has come through Chris Smalling. It is unknown as to how Jose sees Smalling in his future plans but it is likely that United will approach the Englishman for a new contract before there’s a chance of becoming a free agent next year.

  1. David De Gea:

There is not an iota of doubt of how special and important De Gea is to United. He has been their messiah more than often ever since Sir Alex left and given his contract ends this season, United have to desperately look to tie him down given the value of his services. It is rumored that his new contract would make him the highest paid goalkeeper in the world and deservedly so.
