Sadio Mane has backed Liverpool to win against any team in the world in their current form, including Manchester United who they take on at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Liverpool are just two points behind second-placed United ahead of their visit to Old Trafford for their Premier League match and could take a giant step towards sealing that runners-up spot.
Jurgen Klopp’s side booked their place in the last-8 of the Champions League Tuesday night as a 0-0 draw in the second leg of their last-16 tie with Porto helped them record a 5-0 aggregate win. Prior to this draw they had scored 16 goals in their last five games.
Mane missed the reverse fixture back in October that ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw at Anfield, through suspension.
During Tuesday’s match Sane was replaced in the 74th minute by Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah, after boss Klopp gave the Egyptian a rare breather against Porto with his side 5-0 up from the first leg.
The Reds have thrilled supporters this season, with Mane forming part of a formidable front three alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. The Senegalese forward who has scored five goals in his last four games revealed confidence is high in the Liverpool dressing room.
‘It will not be easy but I’ve always said we can beat any team in the world,’ Mane told Sky Sports.
‘Honestly they (Manchester United) are one of the best teams in England, of course in the world also, but we are as well.
‘It’s the dream for every single player to play this kind of game so everyone is looking forward to it.’
Real Madrid joined Liverpool in becoming the first teams to book thier places in the last-8 thanks to a 5-2 aggregate win against Paris Saint-Germain.
