Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has been interviewed by YouTube fan channel FullTimeDEVILS, where he proclaimed that although not a fan of the way Jose Mourinho’s squad play, he feels the Portuguese manager will win things with United.
Cantana, who was a Manchester United icon after winning four Premier League titles and two FA Cups between 1992 and 1997, sympathises with a great number of United fans in his verdict on Mourinho and would like to see the United manager playing a more expressive style of football, which is more truer to the philosophy of the club.
‘United always play in a good way, to enjoy the game. Even in Sir Matt Busby’s time, it was the philosophy of the club, a creative game with passing and movement,” he said.
‘Also winning things is very important. Mourinho will win a lot of things with United. But me, I prefer more fancy and creative [manner of playing]. It is why I loved playing for United.
‘I love Mourinho. It is just I prefer it if it is more offensive because it is United.
‘It is like Barcelona. If Barcelona played in a defensive way, nobody would understand. At United, that philosophy is very strong and now it is a bit difficult to understand.
‘But I think Mourinho will win things with them.’
Having worn the No.7 shirt during his years at Old Trafford, the Frenchman went on to say, he’d like Argentine Javier Pastore to be the next No.7.
With reports claiming that PSG are ready to sell Pastore come January, he urged Mourinho to make a move on the 28-year-old, who despite barely featuring for Paris Saint-Germain this season, has still managed to score three goals in seven Ligue 1 appearances so far.
Cantona was speaking to Stephen Howson and Adam McKola as part of his promotion of his new book! ‘My Notebook.’
